    Substance Abuse Services

CSI’s substance abuse treatment program is based upon the disease model and concept.  Utilization of psycho-education and a Twelve-Step Program of Recovery may be a part of the treatment process. Treatment services include diagnostic, assessment, and referral services in addition to addiction and chemical abuse/dependency counseling. The program is committed to providing community-based treatment to non-acute adolescents

Substance abuse and abuse in childhood is dangerous and arrests normal developmental process, which can quickly transition into addictions. Often contributes to delinquent behaviors and legal consequences.

The participant’s treatment of substance abuse as an appropriate alternative to residential treatment and/or hospitalization; to address major developmental, lifestyle, attitudinal, and behavioral issues that have the potential to undermine the goals of treatment or to inhibit the individual’s ability to cope with major life or developmental tasks; and to assist children and adolescents served in the program in developing and maintaining a healthy, chemical-free (abstinent) lifestyle and to improve their quality of life and functional abilities. The entire family unit must be committed to the treatment of the child and must become fully engaged in the treatment process.

Anyone can make a referral to the substance abuse program for adolescents, ages 13 to 19 years that are substance abusers and/or abuse in childhood.   These adolescents must be functioning at an age equivalent of 11 years or above, mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally. Assessment by mental health professionals and treatment team staffing will determine if the adolescent meets the diagnostic criteria for Substance-Related disorder.  Adolescents who are acutely affected by their substance abuse difficulties and need comprehensive evaluations of health issues are referred to more intensive and appropriate services.
